Summa summa summa summer time

It’s JUNE already! And bummer, I’ve caught a summer cold. Hopefully that’s not going to make a big impact on… GOING INTO THE STUDIO TO START RECORDING MY ALBUM TOMORROW!!!! Whoo hoo! Tomorrow, Tuesday June 3rd, I’m going to begin something I’ve been trying to do for the past 4 freakin’ ‘years! It goes to show, if you really want to do something, if you never let go of it or give up, eventually it will come to pass.

Recording usually starts with ‘pre-production’, which is what I’ll be doing for the first few days in the studio. Preproduction is different with each producer you work with. Generally it means going over songs you will track (record), going over the direction of the sound, arrangements, lyrics, etc. Preproduction allows the musician and producer to get a good picture of what the album will look like overall and it’s a time for everyone involved to share their visions and get on the same page.

Some producers like to hash all the parts out and have the songs pretty much written in stone before going into tracking. Others like to just go with the flow. I suspect we’re going more the latter route, which is the route I personally prefer, though I won’t know for sure until we start. I feel sort of unprepared. I originally wanted to write down all the keyboard and background vocals parts I had come up with in my demos but didn’t get a chance to. The only thing Tim mentioned to bring on the first day were my favorite tunes so I could share music and sounds that I liked hearing in songs.

So now that I’m going to actually start we’ll be posting more blogs from the studio to let everyone in on the process! Ok, I’m off to eat lunch, do some promo for SR Project, maybe practice a bit and then hopefully potato myself in front of the tv to rest and get over this cold so I can sing perty in the studio!
