Project Shout Out: LapTopRockers Interview Mia
Author: Joanna
Laptoprockers is not about fat rockers with fat long hair and fat leather jackets. Hey, that’s what they said. Ever heard of them? Laptoprockers is a site that’s just starting out, but they’ve definitely got it going on, and we’re glad that we get to be part of their beginnings.
Laptoprockers is a site that covers interesting aspects of the music industry and they’re also from the Netherlands. Please check out their site, as well as the interview they did with Mia.
By the way, just in case you didn’t notice, we have 100 project members AND we’ve raised more than $7,000. Not bad, not bad. And you have minutes before it hits the 12:00 mark to be part of this pre-sale. After that…well, I can’t tell you here.

Trials and Tribulations

This week is off from recording! I’m catching up on some housekeeping, errands, promo for the Project, etc. So a couple weeks ago I almost gave up. Scrapped everything. Artist=swept away by emotion I guess. I was feeling stressed about raising funds, doubting my worth, wanting to just quit and give up the album and music. It was like a storm of discouragement and negative thoughts came and battered me for a week. The biggest frustration was feeling insignificant. Insignificant musically, to the world, etc. But my faith got me through, and I read my trusty bible and the storm passed. But, truthfully if there were no project managers/support team and project members to keep me accountable, I would have run away and hid in a cave. Thankfully, I’m not alone! What causes stress? Well for one, feeling as if every note is final, down for posterity. Trusting another human being to bring the songs to fruition (still working on this one, but I’m getting better, no?). Wondering if my stuff is really good or just ‘good’, though I know I don’t suck. Fearing that I’m wasting everyone’s money and time. Though the technical process or recording itself hasn’t been stressful, it’s these general questions about my identity and future as a musician that press upon me. It’s times like these I wish I was a driven, ambitious, slightly obnoxious but well-meaning diva. I’d get so much done! I know we all go through these times. It’s part of being human. Thanks for reading.

Songs Mapped Out, Tempos Chosen= DONE!
Scratch Tracks (Vocals and Guitar)=DONE!
Record Drums (over scratch tracks)= DONE!
What next? Now we get into the meat of recording! Right now as I type, Tim is recording electric guitar parts, layers and layers of them, onto “War”. Looks like we’ll take it song by song, add instrumentation, and flesh them all out musically. Then we tackle vocals and I’ll get to sing to amazing instrumentation. (Karaoke to my own songs? Fun!)

A Quick Hello!

I’m still here! And the Sukey Rose Project is still alive and kickin’! Last weekend I stole away to the mountains. I had a couple songwriting breakthroughs, wrote a new song last night (another haunting slow song) and we pretty much settled the track list today. Thank you to those who voted in the “hear your say” section to help me decide about which songs should go and which should stay. Adam the drummer is coming in on Thursday to track drums all day. Then it’s build build build. Will explain more in detail in a soon-to-come video blog!

p.s. please spread the word to anyone you may know who would be interested in supporting indie music. Thanks!
